Vegetable Printmaking - GPL Community Read 2026
In partnership with the Galesburg Public Library's Community Read, we are hosting 3 free activities that correspond with this year's book: Bite by Bite: Nourishments and Jamborees by Aimee Nezhukumatathil.
For the final activity, participants will get to explore Vegetable Printmaking! Open to all ages; supervision recommended for kiddos 10 and under.
Inspired by Bite by Bite, which celebrates the individuality and story of everyday foods, this activity invites us to look more closely at what’s already on our plates.
Explore the natural beauty of fruits and vegetables by using them like stamps! Each fruit and veggie has unique visual qualities that POP on the page — star-shaped centers, delicate seeds, bold rings, and surprising textures. Just like people, fruits and vegetables look different all over the world. Climate, culture, and geography all shape how they grow.
When you slice one open, you’ll discover its one-of-a-kind “fingerprint.” Through printmaking, we’ll celebrate the patterns, colors, and identities found inside these everyday ingredients, letting their natural designs tell a story of their own.
